A gleaming golden chalice stands in the glow of a stained-glass window at Blessed Sacrament Church in Jonesboro in Caroline A. Brodell's photo that won first place in Arkansas Catholic’s 2020 contest to select an image for the cover of the 2021 diocesan directory.

Brodell will receive photographer credit in the directory, a free copy and a one-year subscription to Arkansas Catholic. This is her second year in a row to win the contest.

Second place was won by Debra Moseley of Camden for her photo of St. Louis Church with a pink-blooming tulip magnolia in the foreground.

Robert C. Alexander of Little Rock won third place with a photo of Our Lady of Good Counsel art, displayed for the anniversary of the Little Rock church that bears her name.

Honorable mentions went to photos entered by Mary Compton of Hope, Robert L. Morris of Heber Springs and Andrew Hiegel of North Little Rock. This year’s contest attracted 11 qualified entries. Other photographers entered the contest from Bella Vista, Booneville, Cave Springs, Sherwood and Solgohachia.

Eligible subjects were any architectural element or detail of a Catholic church or institution in Arkansas. Photos were judged by the newspaper staff based on composition, technical quality, visual appeal and suitability for the directory cover.

The 2021 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory will be delivered in early October.
