Two postulants at Holy Angels Convent in Jonesboro were invested as novices Aug. 15, the feast of the Assumption. Following Mass, chaplain Father Benignus Wego, SVD, blessed their habits. At midday prayer, Josie Nunez received the name Sister Maria Jose, and Laurie Nick received the name Sister Emmanuel Marie.

Both women joined the order as postulants in 2024. Nuñez, a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Fort Smith, worked for the City of Fort Smith. Nick, formerly of Little Rock, was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in St. Francisville, La., and served as the director of youth ministry for the Diocese of Shreveport. During their novitiate, they will continue to discern their calling and deepen their prayer life.
