The St. Thomas More Society of Arkansas and the Pulaski County Bar Association co-hosted an interfaith prayer breakfast May 1 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew’s McDonald Hall in Little Rock. The event was part of the annual Law Week celebration in Central Arkansas and coincided with the 74th Annual National Prayer Day. Approximately 75 people attended, including elected officials, current and retired judges, attorneys, law professors, law students and others in the legal profession.
Russell Bailey, current president of the St. Thomas More Society of Arkansas, joined by board members of the society and the PCBA, introduced five clergy members from central Arkansas who led reflections based upon the theme, “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled.” The speakers were Rabbi Mark Biller from the Jewish Congregation Agudath Achim, Rev. Glenn Hersey from St. Mark Baptist Church, Imam Mohammed Nawaz from the Madina Institute and Mosque, Rev. Susan Sims Smith with the Interfaith Center in Little Rock and Bishop Anthony B. Taylor.
Father Gregory Luyet, chaplain for the St. Thomas More Society and pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, led the breakfast prayer, and music was provided by Elizabeth Reha and Paul Vogler, also from Good Counsel Parish in Little Rock. Proceeds were donated to Helping Hand of Greater Little Rock and the Little Rock Compassion Center food pantry.
