Bishop Anthony B. Taylor blessed St. Scholastica Monastery’s columbarium April 25 in Fort Smith. The two stone structures flanked the small courtyard behind the altar on the monastery cemetery grounds. The cremains of sisters who passed away since the pandemic will be relocated to their engraved niches in the columbarium, and there will be additional niches for sisters as well as oblates and community members who choose St. Scholastica Columbarium as their final resting place.
The columbarium was blessed with holy water and a prayer service including passages from John 11:38-44 and Psalm 118. Chaplain Father Joseph Chan and prioress Sister Kimberly Prohaska assisted in the ceremony. Sisters and guests enjoyed a reception following the service.
