Hosea Washington, a member of St. Peter Church in Pine Bluff, was presented with the Daniel Rudd Award during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Mass Jan 18 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. Washington, 75, was a teacher at the former St. Peter School but now is the principal of the school in the Tucker Unit.

“She continues to grow in her faith by participating with Bible study with some of her friends,” said DCBC president Verdell Bunting. “She is on the finance council. She is the longest member of the church gospel choir for 45 years… She worked tirelessly with children at St. Peter’s as a former religious education teacher and sponsored the youth group.”

The award is presented by the Diocesan Council for Black Catholics each year during the MLK Mass. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Anthony B. Taylor with participation from the African American and Nigerian communities.
