St. Joseph High School’s 31 seniors and three adults went through the University of Central Arkansas’ Challenge Course in Conway Nov. 21 as part of a daylong tour of the campus. The course, which opened in 2019, was built to provide an environment where UCA and the surrounding community had the chance to take part in an outdoor activity to promote team-building, self-growth and recreation. High ropes, ziplines and a rock wall have led observers to liken it to “a cross between an escape room and American Ninja Warrior.”

“The three-hour course was like a journey through life,” English teacher and senior class sponsor Alicia Yrle said. “The students kept cheering each other and helping each other. They faced fears but never gave up.” Both Yrle, dean of students Karen Davis and youth minister Morgan Evans also took up the challenge and were equally moved by the experience.

“I’m glad every single one of them was part of my journey, and I was honored to be part of theirs,” Yrle said.
