Christian Stelly, a native of Opelousas, La., made his monastic simple vows of stability, obedience and conversatio morum (conversion) for three years during a ceremony at Subiaco Abbey Sept. 8. Abbot Elijah Owens, OSB, assigned him a new religious name, “Benoît,” which is the French spelling of his saint name, St. Benedict. He chose the French spelling to honor his Cajun and French heritage. Cajun was the language of his grandparents, who influenced his vocation.
