Golf tournament raises more than $25,000 for new van

Rebsamen Golf Course in Little Rock was the setting for the 29th annual Catholic Charities of Arkansas Golf Tournament Oct. 7.

Twenty-four teams, with a total of 96 golfers, enjoyed the day that raised more than $25,000 that will be used to buy a passenger van for the agency to provide transportation for its clients.

Tournament sponsors included Sacred Heart Church in Hot Springs Village, whose pastor, Father Bill Elser, played with a team that finished second overall. The Arkansas Knights of Columbus State Council, CHI St. Vincent and First Security Bank joined other sponsors in underwriting the event. Buenos Aires Grill and Café in the Little Rock River Market area catered the food and served their signature empanadas.

Prizes were awarded for various contests, including closest to the line, longest drive and long putts made.  Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the major fundraiser that supports Catholic Charities of Arkansas, and planning is underway for 2025 to be even better.
