Sister Deborah Troillett, RSM, returned to Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock Sept. 24 for the annual Mercy Day Mass and to celebrate her golden jubilee. Sister Deborah was joined by seven other Sisters of Mercy, all of whom renewed their vows during the Mass.
“Thank you for allowing me to come home again today, this sacred place, on this special day of celebration, after all these many years,” the former school president said. “…I would never have made this journey of 50 years without you, all of you, and there’s another group — the communion of saints — who are also here with us in a mysterious way. I couldn’t have made it without them as well. … You always gathered a community around me of support and love and challenge, forgiveness and mercy. … I’m here because of God’s mercy and faithfulness.”
Sister Deborah joined the staff of MSM in 1989 and left in 2011 when she was the school president to join the Sisters of Mercy leadership team in Maryland. She has been the executive director of the Arkansas House of Prayer since 2018.
Held each year on or near Sept. 24, this schoolwide annual day of community service commemorates the opening of Catherine McAuley’s first House of Mercy in Ireland in 1827. In the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy founder, the Mount St. Mary community celebrates this anniversary by completing acts of service in the school, neighborhood and Little Rock community before coming together to celebrate Mass.
