Sister Adrian Wewers, OSB, a member of St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, died Aug. 16. She was 95.

Born Hedwig Ann in Morrison Bluff to Willie and Stephanie Seiter Wewers, Sister Adrian entered the monastery in 1945, joining her aunt, Sister Benita Wewers. She became a novice June 24, 1946, when she was given the name Sister Adrian. She made her temporary profession in 1948 and her final profession in 1952.

Sister Adrian initially wanted to pursue nursing but realized there was a greater need for teachers and pursued this career instead. After receiving a degree in elementary education, she taught in Dardanelle, Barling, Russellville, Paris and St. Joseph Home in North Little Rock, as well as Missouri and Texas for 36 years.

After retiring, Sister Adrian lived at the monastery and assisted her fellow sisters in their tasks.

She is survived by five sisters, Mary Edelhuber, Wilma Ahlert, Sarah Wewers, Patricia Reid and Debbie Bentley; her extended family and her Benedictine community.

A vesper Service was held Aug. 30 and a funeral Mass at Aug. 31 with chaplain Father Joseph Chan as presider. Memorials may be made to St. Scholastica Monastery’s Continuing Care Fund, 1315 S. Albert Pike Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72903.
