School Sister of Notre Dame taught for 52 years

Sister Herman Marie Siebenmorgen, SSND, who was a parochial school educator for 52 years, died Sept. 9. She was 100. 

Born Crescence Agnes in Morrison Bluff to Appolonia Wewers and Herman Siebenmorgen, Sister Herman entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame and was received into the novitiate Aug. 2, 1948. She professed her final vows Aug. 3, 1955. 

She received a bachelor’s degree in English in 1956 and a master’s degree in education in 1962. 

Over the course of her 52-year teaching career, Sister Herman ministered in seven states and 20 schools. She served as a principal for 17 years. 

In 2001, she was transferred to St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, Miss., ministering in community service, where she put her crocheting skills to good use. The sisters relocated to Trinity Trace Community Care Center in Covington, La.

She is survived by one brother, Lawrence Siebenmorgen of Morrilton; four sisters, Sister Dolores Marie Siebenmorgen, SSND, of Covington, La., Rose Nelson of Streamwood, Ill., Bertha Gottsponer of  Morrilton and Dolores Land of Conway, along with many nieces and nephews. 

Services for Sister Herman Marie were held Sept.  20 at Most Holy Trinity Churc in Covington, with a visitation followed by a prayer service/sharing of memories, then the Mass of Resurrection. Burial will be in the School Sisters of Notre Dame Cemetery in Chatawa, Miss.
