
Deacon Efrain Vargas, 68, who served St. Edward Church and the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Little Rock, died Aug. 10. He was 68.
Vargas was born in Siuna, Nicaragua, but moved to Little Rock in 1989. He served in various ministries, including as a faith formation instructor, eucharistic minister and lector. He was part of the former Catholic radio ministry and often hosted KABF on Sunday nights.
Vargas was ordained in 2012, and served St. Edward Church in Little Rock for 12 years. He also participated in jail ministry, the Cursillo movement and Grupo Vincentinos.
He is survived by his wife, Mari Vargas; one son, Greg Vargas; one daughter, Gema Vargas; one brother, Geovany Vargas; three sisters, Leonor Vargas, Mayra Vargas and Claudia Vargas; and several grandchildren.
