Sister Miriam Hoffman, OSB, a member of St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, died July 10. She was 92.
Born Lucille Marie in Altus to Paul and Gertrude Hoffman, Sister Miriam entered St. Scholastica Monastery as a candidate Aug. 29, 1947. She made her first profession June 24, 1950, and her final profession June 24, 1953.
Sister Miriam was known for her hospitality and love of culinary arts. She attended Fontbonne College in Clayton, Mo., for dietetics and food service. She went on to serve in the dietary departments of hospitals in Dermott and Morrilton for 38 years before serving as the monastery dietary manager for 20 years until her retirement. She was known for making sweet treats for the other sisters and guests.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and members of her Benedictine family.
A vespers service was held July 18. The Mass for Christian Burial was held July 19 with chaplain Father Joseph Chan presiding. Both services were held at St. Scholastica Monastery Chapel, with burial in St. Scholastica Cemetery.
