Sister of Mercy was a Fort Smith native

Sister Joyce Ann Christy, RSM, 73, a Sister of Mercy who served in Missouri and Louisiana, died Jan. 1. Sister Joyce grew up in Fort Smith and received her bachelor’s degree in secondary education at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She made her perpetual profession of vows Oct. 28, 2000, in Missouri and went on to serve in Missouri and Louisiana.The funeral Mass will be held Jan. 19 at Immaculate Conception Church in Fort Smith, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, also in Fort Smith.
