Marvin Blaes served as deacon in NLR parish

Marvin William Blaes, a member of Christ the King Church in Little Rock, died Sept. 2. He was 87. 

Born in Belleville, Ill., to Gilbert and Anita Blaes, Blaes taught Sunday school and started youth ministry programs and Scripture studies before being ordained a deacon in 1986. He served as a deacon at Immaculate Conception Church in North Little Rock. His 30-year career with Union Pacific Railroad brought him to central Arkansas, where he made his home. 

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Blaes; four sons, Kevin “Buzz” Blaes, Greg Greenwood, Scott Greenwood and Doug Greenwood; four daughters, Kim Clemons, Kristie Holden, Charlotte Moix and Gayle Clark; two brothers, Fred Blaes and Ron Blaes; one sister, Carolyn Hinson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
