Father Joseph A. Seiter, CSSp, who was the pastor of several parishes in the state, died Sept. 2. He was 87.
Father Seiter was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Morrison Bluff, professed his vows as a member of the Holy Ghost order in Connecticut Aug. 22, 1957, and was ordained June 6, 1962. He was first appointed to East Africa in the District of Kilimanjaro where he served for 20 years.
After returning to the U.S., he served in Pennsylvania, Texas and California. Father Seiter came back to Arkansas, serving as pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Morrilton, St. Rose of Lima in Carlisle and Holy Trinity Church in England. He was the assistant pastor of Immaculate Conception in Fort Smith and then St. Joseph Church in Conway. He retired in 2009 and took up residence at the Spiritan Retirement Center in Bethel Park, Penn.
He is survived by one sister, Barbara Ketchenside of Conway, as well as multiple nieces and nephews and extended family. A visitation was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in Bethel Park, Penn. Sept. 7, followed by the funeral Mass. Burial was held at the Spiritan Cemetery section of St. Mary Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Pa.
