ROGERS AND CONWAY
Blending his passion for music and ministry together, Matthew Moix, 20, keeps the rhythm of music alive in his life and as a ministry for others.
Currently a junior at the University of Central Arkansas majoring in logistics and supply chain management, Moix prioritizes both his academics and campus ministry. He participates in four different Bible studies and is a band member who plays both the piano and guitar for the student Mass on Sunday nights. This past summer, he played at Masses and helped with the music ministry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock (Marche).
A parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Rogers, Moix was also a member of the Life Teen band, where he spent weekends playing piano at services of different churches and then playing keyboard at the youth Mass.
Moix, the youngest of four sons of Ed and Nita Moix, will tell you that music has always inspired and relaxed him. As a high school junior at Ozark Catholic Academy in Tontitown, Moix was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and spent months out of school, going back and forth to Little Rock for infusions. He said music saved him.
”Honestly,” he said, “the cancer was an obstacle, but the people that were praying, reaching out and surrounding me with love was the spiritual take-away. The prayers, Mass intentions and being surrounded by family meant the most to me. You can never be the same after something like that.”
Now as an Honors College student, Moix is a testimonial of giving back and giving of himself. He serves on the student orientation staff, or S.O.S., at UCA, helping with Welcome Week, is a member of the Student Government Association representing the College of Business, raises money for the Relay for Life and is an ambassador of the UCA College of Business.
