Sister Mary Dorothy Calhoun, RSM, who formerly worked in Arkansas, died Nov. 23. She was 88.
She attended Holy Name of Jesus School and Mercy Academy in St. Louis and entered the convent in 1952. She earned a degree from St. John Hospital School of Nursing in 1958, a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1960 and a master’s degree in hospital administration in 1968 from St. Louis University.
She served in nursing, administration and ministry, including as CEO, supervisor of obstetrics, delivery, nursery, operating room, emergency room and director of nursing services at Mercy facilities in New Orleans, Springfield, Mo., Brownsville, Texas, Laredo, Texas, St. Louis and St. Paul, Minn. From 1992-2014, she served at St. Joseph Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs and worked as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith from 2014 to 2020. For the past two years, she lived with the retired Sisters of Mercy in St. Louis.
She is survived by one brother, William Hart Brundige Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 30 at the Catherine’s Residence chapel in St. Louis, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, also in St. Louis. Memorials can be made to Catherine’s Residence Ministry Fund, 2039 N. Geyer Rd, St. Louis, MO 63131, attention Sister Richard Mary Burke, RSM.
