Blessed Sacrament, Jonesboro

Assigned to: Blessed Sacrament, Jonesboro

Employment: Associate professor of botany, Arkansas State University

Wife: Betsy

How did you hear your calling to become a deacon? It started many years ago as a quiet, subtle prompting of the Holy Spirit, which became clearer over time after much prayer and discernment, alone and with my wife. In addition, I also had many discussions with my mentor and friend, the late Father David Bellinghausen, OSB, a monk of Subiaco Abbey, who provided me with much insight into how to discern God's call to become a deacon.

What ministries are you currently involved in? Prison ministry, taking holy Communion to the sick, volunteering at a local food pantry, men's faith formation/Bible Study group.

Who have been the biggest influences in your diaconate formation? First and foremost, my wife, Betsy, and our two daughters, Kate and Michaela for their encouragement and support. I was also deeply influenced by the diaconate formation team, and in a special way by the late Deacon Butch King, because he shared some invaluable words of wisdom, which still continue to help me grow spiritually.
