Deacon Brunon John Strozyk, who served at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock (Marche) for 33 years, died March 26. He was 81.
He was born Oct. 22, 1938, to Floyd Strozyk and Martha Strozyk in North Little Rock. He married his wife Dottie on May 6, 1961, and the couple had four children. She died Jan. 18.
Diaconate formation was brought to the Diocese of Little Rock in 1977, and Strozyk was among the first deacons, ordained in 1986. He has since served at Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Pastor Father Rubén Quinteros said of Strozyk, “His relationship with the Lord always came first. He leaves a deep mark in our church; he leaves a deep mark in my personal life. My priesthood has been better because he was our deacon.”
According to his funeral home obituary, “He absolutely loved his family and the community. His devotion, ministry and family were central to his life. He centered his life on living the Scriptures and helping others develop their own faith.”
He is survived by two sons, John William Strozyk of Strongsville, Ohio, and Paul Anthony Strozyk of Hot Springs; two daughters, Teresa Marie Kelly of Little Rock and Shara Len Justice of North Little Rock (Marche); one brother, Charles Strozyk of North Little Rock (Marche); one sister, Evelyn Harper of North Little Rock (Marche); 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Due to the threat of COVID-19, the funeral was held for immediate family only. Father Quinteros said they hope to celebrate his life for the larger parish community in the future.
