Msgr. Francis I. Malone will be ordained the third bishop of the Diocese of Shreveport at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Shreveport Convention Center at 400 Caddo Street.
Ordaining him will be Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor and former Shreveport bishop, Bishop Michael G. Duca, now of Baton Rouge.
The Diocese of Shreveport announced Dec. 9 that the location was moved from the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans to the larger venue “due to an outpouring of enthusiasm from the faithful of our diocese and Bishop-elect Malone’s desire to include more of his future flock in this joyous celebration.”
Because the convention will allow seating for 2,500 people, tickets will be not required. A reception will be held following Mass on the second floor of the convention center.
Reserved seating will be provided for visiting bishops, priests and deacons from Diocese of Little Rock and the Diocese of Shreveport, members of the Equestrian Order Of the Holy Sepulchre, Knights of Peter Claver, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Dames and Knights of St. Gregory, religious men and women and Bishop-elect Malone’s family and friends. Music will be provided by a diocesan choir.
Evening vespers will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27 at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans.
“This will be an opportunity for Bishop-elect Malone to meet and greet members of religious orders and persons from the political community,” the diocese announced. “Additionally, family members and guests of Bishop-elect Malone, visiting bishops and clergy of the Diocese of Shreveport will be in attendance."
The service is open to the public, and no tickets will be required.
Bishop-elect Malone will remain the pastor of Christ the King Church in Little Rock until Dec. 31.
