Alexis Burchfield received strong directions in life from her parents, her friends and the youth minster at her church and the coordinator of Camp Joshua, a pro-life camp for high school students.
She never realized that by working in the corporate world, missionary work and her education that she was preparing herself to motivate so many people as the youth minister at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Benton. She said she had always admired, Bevie Davies, the 25-year-old’s youth minister at Christ the King Church in Little Rock, and tries to emulate Davies in providing guidance to Benton’s youth.
“I wanted to be just like her,” Burchfield said.
During the past year, she has focused on providing guidance to about 15 high school students.
“I help them receive the knowledge to help them through life,” Burchfield said. “They live in a world today that is morally skewed by the secular world.”
Burchfield, who grew up in Maumelle, said that in 2012 she was one of the first campers at Camp Joshua, a three-day camp sponsored by Arkansas Right to Life, to equip high school students with tools to support pro-life efforts.
“I believe people are not educated about abortion. I want people to know they are taking an innocent life,” she said
She and her husband, Thomas, are currently foster parents to a six-month-old boy. The couple lives in Sheridan where they attend Holy Cross Church.
