Arkansas Catholic brought home five writing awards from the annual Catholic Media Conference June 21 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Associate editor Aprille Hanson was recognized for writing all five of the award-winning articles or series in 2018.
- Second place for Best Coverage of Pro-Life Issues for the series called “Special Needs Special Gifts”
- First place and third place for Best Feature Writing for Weekly Diocesan Newspaper, Circulation 25,000 or Less: The first place article was titled “Caregiving: At the Intersection of Ministry, Charity and Love”
- The third place article was titled “Feet First: This Common Accessory Can Spark Religious Conversations"
- Third place and honorable mention for Best Reporting on the Celebration of a Sacrament – Weekly Diocesan Newspaper, Circulation 25,000 or Less: The third place article was titled “The Sacraments Are For All, Including People With Disabilities”
- The honorable mention award was given for “Just for Dying, Healing Sacrament Sometimes Forgotten”
