North Little Rock kids learn summer school can be cool

Immaculate Conception School in North Little Rock hosted 48 students in a summer program June 15–19 for students entering first through eighth grades. Themed “Freddy Falcon Flies the Coop,” the week included courses designed to be not only fun but educational as well.

Subjects ranged from art, creative writing and theater to fitness, science and recycling. Students completed several projects, such as creating and filming their own exercise videos, crafting art out of recyclable objects and blowing bubble snakes. Costumed mascot Freddy the Falcon visited several classes.

“I would absolutely consider our first summer program a success,” said Kim Wine, a third-grade teacher who oversaw the program.

Wine said they are looking forward to seeing how the program grows in years to come.
