Sister Mary Concepta Joerger, OP is celebrating 60 years as a Dominican Sister of Springfield, Ill. She entered the Springfield Dominican Congregation on June 27, 1952, and made profession of vows on Jan. 4, 1954.
She was attracted to the consecrated life by the friendliness and warmth of the sisters who taught her at Holy Cross School and at Sacred Heart Academy. Sister Concepta’s primary areas of ministry were in education and chaplain ministry. She was a chaplain at St. Mary-Rogers Hospital from 1993 to 2006. She loved teaching, especially preparing children for first Holy Communion and reconciliation. She also worked at St. Joseph Home in Springfield. She received her bachelor’s degree from DePaul University in Chicago, and her clinical pastoral education and chaplain certification by the National Association of Chaplains from St. John Regional Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Sister Concepta is presently co-director of Siena Hall in Springfield where her primary area of ministry is ministering to guests who stay at Siena Hall when visiting sisters at our motherhouse or are attending meetings at Sacred Heart Convent.
Sister will celebrate her jubilee privately with the Springfield Dominican Community in June.
