The Center for Women in Transition was the recipient of the 2013 National Comcast Cares day of service project April 22. Comcast helps communities and local organizations ‘power dreams’ by providing access to innovative technology, volunteering time, offering financial support and engaging in other community service efforts.
Comcast Cares Day is its signature day of service and one of the largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts in the country. This year, the Center for Women in Transition was the lucky recipient and had more than 30 volunteers participating in landscaping the exterior premises. New flowers, shrubs, cleaning, weeding and planting were part of the day. Special thanks to all the clients, Boy Scout Troop 27 from Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church and longtime supporter Bunny Harper for volunteering.
This year, Comcast had more than 70,000 volunteers working at over 600 project sites from coast to coast. Since 2001, more than 437,000 Comcast volunteers have donated over 2.6 million hours of service on nearly 4,200 projects in neighborhoods across the country.
“We are truly grateful for our partnership with Comcast during Comcast Cares Day, as it draws attention to our mission here at the center. We want our organization to be a place of beauty and new life, and thanks to the new landscaping given to us by Comcast our center is just that. When women walk into our center, they now can get a sense of security, serenity and peace, which are three things they probably have not felt in quite a while," executive director Sister LeeAnn McNally, RSM, said.
The Center for Women in Transition is approaching its eighth years of service to central Arkansas women. The center helps women as they transition from jail or prison, back into normal society with re-entry classes, anger management, life skills, helping with job placement and many other basic needs. The center also manages Mrs. Beverly’s Transitional Home (living facility). The center has assisted more than 1,750 women and are now working in conjunction with the coming city re-entry program.
