Winning photo to appear on 2014 directory cover

A photo of the arched entrance to St. Joseph Center of Arkansas framing the former orphanage’s main building in North Little Rock, taken by Karla Lock Harper of North Little Rock, won first place in Arkansas Catholic’s annual photo contest.

The winning photo will appear on the cover of the 2014 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory. Harper will receive photographer’s credit in the directory, a one-year subscription to Arkansas Catholic and a copy of the directory.

Second place in the contest went to Paul McGuyer of Charleston. McGuyer submitted a photo of a grotto at Subiaco Abbey.

A night photo of Immaculate Conception Church in North Little Rock took third place for Harper.

Honorable mention went to photos submitted by Robert C. Alexander of Little Rock and Debbie Kelly of Maumelle.

This year’s contest attracted 10 qualified entries. Other photographers entered the contest from Hot Springs, Glenwood and Little Rock. Eligible subjects were any architectural element or detail of a Catholic church or institution in Arkansas. Photos are judged by the newspaper staff based on composition, technical quality, visual appeal and suitability for the directory cover.
