Taking the next steps toward becoming Catholic

Two Rite of Election services were held Feb. 17 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock for those living in southeastern and central Arkansas. During the rite, the RCIA directors or parish representatives hold up their Books of Elect with signatures from all the elect and candidates.

Rites of Election were held in four parishes Feb. 16 to 19. During the rite, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor greets each elect (not baptized) and candidate (baptized in another Christian faith) and signs the Books of Elect, which were presented by the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults coordinators in each parish.

During Lent, the elect and candidates make final preparations before they become Catholic at the Easter vigil March 30.
