Tours of two Catholic institutions in Central Arkansas will be given through the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. On Friday, March 1 the Sandwiching in History program will come to St. John Center in Little Rock. The program will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Visitors will learn about Little Rock College and St. John Seminary, which relocated to the new campus in 1916, and later became St. John Seminary. The campus became home to diocesan offices in 1968.
The Walk through History program will visit Marylake Monastery in Saline County from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, March 9. The monastery was originally built as the Shriners Country Club in 1925 and was later used as a hospital. In 1952 the Carmelites bought the 420-acre property south of Little Rock for its monastery.
Both tours are free and open to the public.
