Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will mark the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision with the Mass for Life at noon, Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Robinson Center exhibition hall in downtown Little Rock.
Prior to the Mass, eucharistic adoration will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the Rosary for Life at 11:15 a.m. Anyone who lost a child is invited to sign the Book of Innocents and present a red rose during the offertory at the Mass.
A prayer vigil will be held from 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 to 8 a.m. Jan. 20 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew. Central Arkansas parishes and Knights of Columbus councils have been assigned to pray at the Cathedral.
Arkansas Right to Life will sponsor the 35th annual March for Life at 2 p.m. from a new location. The march will begin at West Capitol and Battery streets and continue east to the Capitol steps.
“We ask that all participants march in silence,” director Rose Mimms said.
The march will end at the steps of the state Capitol where a brief program will be held to include prayer and talks from religious and political leaders. The state’s constitutional officers and U.S. senators and representatives have been invited to participate. Also participating will be Paul Greenberg, editorial page editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette; Father Thomas Keller, pastor of St. Rose Church in Carlisle; and Happy Caldwell, pastor of Agape Church in Little Rock. The soloist will be Denise Steinhaus of Hot Springs accompanied by Larry Womack.
“Forty years of legal abortion, and we still march, and we will never stop marching until legal abortion is no more,” Mimms said. “Millions of unborn human lives lost and women still hurting, that is the legacy of legal abortion.”
Complimentary chili and hot dogs will be served following the march by the Knights of Columbus Council #6253 at 6253 Camp Robinson Rd. in North Little Rock. For more information about the Mass, contact the diocesan Respect Life Office at (501) 664-0340.
