Fat Tuesday celebrations marked the start of school after a three-day weekend for Holy Rosary School students in Stuttgart. Principal Kathy Lorince said the school hosted an afternoon Mardi Gras parade Feb. 21 with celebrations following.
The parade had the different grades showing off their hand-made, decorated floats constructed from shoe boxes. The sixth grade constructed their float to be battery-operated and remote-controlled.
“It was chaotic, but fun,” Lorince said.
The typically annual affair also had the children trying king cake, singing and dancing. In the past, masks are made as part of the festivities, however, Lorince said there was not enough time to make them Tuesday. This year, the children were also able to eat pancakes for lunch. Lorince said, “The kids enjoyed it.”
