Thousands of Arkansas Catholics gathered to celebrate the annual Encuentro Hispano Oct. 1 at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in Little Rock.
“Respeto a la Vida” was the theme for the day, as the Hispanic Ministry promoted “respect life” issues among the Hispanic community. The daylong event for adults and children offered workshops, presentations, food and vendor booths, dance and cultural activities, a eucharistic procession and Mass.
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor opened the day with a prayer, led the procession with the Eucharist and celebrated the closing Mass. He gave the homily first in Spanish and then in English, focusing on family and being good stewards of what God has given to us.
