For the third year in a row, the Diocese of Little Rock has set the Holy Thursday Collection for Seminarians for April 21. The collection goes directly to funding seminarian education.
Msgr. Scott Friend, vocations director, said the collection is more critical than ever because the number of diocesan seminarians continues to increase. Earnings from the diocesan burse fund are no longer sufficient to cover all of the costs.
“Over the past two years, the people of our diocese have given generously,” Msgr. Friend said in a letter that will be read at all Holy Thursday Masses. “In fact, the total for those two years was $733,000. That $733,000 has allowed 11 young men to attend the seminary for the past two years. What a blessing to these seminarians. And what a promise of future blessing for our diocese.”
Currently, the diocese has 30 seminarians, with the possibility of having 33 in the fall, Msgr. Friend said.
“Every gift is a sign of faith,” he said.
