Arkansas Catholic sent off its first bound volume of The Southern Guardian Feb. 15 to be scanned.
Many of the pages are receiving “white glove” treatment to remove creases and piece pages back together. The volume contained the first 12 months of the diocesan newspaper starting with the March 25, 1911, issue.
These issues will be posted on www. arkansas-catholic.org as part of the newspaper’s centennial.
Donations from the first Guardian Angels campaign, launched in October, will make it possible for the public to view the historic issues. Volumes from 1912 to 2001 will be scanned and made searchable as funding is available.
The Guardian Angels campaign continues until March 25, Arkansas Catholic’s 100th anniversary. Donors can send in their check or money order with their name and address to Arkansas Catholic Guardian Angels, P.O. Box 2536, Little Rock, AR 72203.
