Bishop Anthony B. Taylor, family members and diocesan staff pray over Marian Swift and Jan Brass Aug. 3, following the presentation of the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (“For Church and Pope”) Award, the highest honor given by the pope to a Catholic layperson or clergy.
Bishop Taylor requested the honor to thank Swift and Brass for their years of service to the diocese. Swift, secretary to Bishop Emeritus Andrew J. McDonald, began working for the finance office in 1994. Brass retired in December after 17 years in the Tribunal and serving as the secretary to Bishop J. Peter Sartain, former diocesan administrator Msgr. J. Gaston Hebert and Bishop Taylor.
Also during the Mass, Bishop Taylor celebrated his 30th anniversary as a priest.
