A summer tradition

Ed Franz instructs a camper at the skeet shooting venue at Camp Subiaco this month.
One hundred and one Arkansas boys, ages 9 to 13, and 81 Texans participated in one of the two weeks of Camp Subiaco. Campers also came from Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kansas, Montana and South Carolina. Fifty-one alumni, parents and monks volunteered during the camps.
Campers enjoyed archery, camping, canoeing, climbing wall, crafts, fishing, hiking, inflatable games, riflery, skeet shooting, zip line and team activities June 13-26.
Organizers said the camp draws boys from far away because their father or grandfather attended Subiaco Academy and hope the boys might attend there someday as well.
