The Diocese of Little Rock unveiled its newly designed Web site Oct. 12 to make it faster and easier for users to get information and education about the Catholic faith in Arkansas.
Tara Little, director of Web site and Internet services, said she wanted to redesign the site after monitoring how users have accessed the site over the past three years. The site, www.dolr.org, was launched in September 2006.
The home page now features a larger rotation of photos, many from the pages of Arkansas Catholic. These photos show the many faces of the Diocese of Little Rock and are featured on every page of the site.
Several new features were added to the home page. The top of the page include quick links to the Spanish pages, Mass times, employment and St. John Center. The bar below the photos now includes easier access to the clergy and diocesan staff directories.
The Prayer Book of Intentions Online was placed prominently on the top of the left column. The first three prayer requests are visible, with a link to read the many other requests submitted over the past two weeks. Anyone can submit a prayer request in English and Spanish.
The left column also features quick links to learning more about the Catholic faith and becoming Catholic, vocations, marriage and family programs and volunteer opportunities.
On the right column, visitors can quickly see what new features have been added to the site over the past month. The special features box highlights yearlong programs and Bishop Taylor’s biography and homilies. The current diocesan calendar of events and the top local news from Arkansas Catholic are also displayed.
At the bottom of the home page, a different diocesan office or program will be featured each month in the Ministry Spotlight.
Regular visitors will also notice the page is wider. Little said widening the pages has allowed for more content and links to be included throughout the site.
On Oct. 14 Little gave presentations to the priests and diocesan employees at St. John Center to detail the Web site changes.
Little said, “The site is updated daily and now offers more than 1,000 pages in English and Spanish. New features are in the works so I encourage visitors to return often. The site exists to inform, educate and evangelize, and I am always looking for ways to better achieve these goals. Please send your questions, comments or suggestions by e-mailing me through the ’Contact Us’ link at the top and bottom of every page on the site.”
About the site, Abbot Jerome Kodell, OSB, of Subiaco Abbey said, “Someone could practically get a doctorate on the Catholic Church sitting at a computer.”
