40 years of searching

About 200 Searchers gathered at St. John Center Aug. 2 for Re-Search, a reunion for Catholics who attended Search #1 in 1969 to #120 in June.

Activities included worship with music provided by Team Jesus, a teen band from Christ the King Church in Little Rock. Daniel Mitchell, a member of St. John Church in Hot Springs and a sophomore at the University of Arkansas, speaks to the group. Other speakers included vicar general Msgr. Scott Friend and Bishop Anthony B. Taylor, who attended Search in high school in Oklahoma.

The first “Search director,” now known as the “Search dad,” Charlie Proctor of Stuttgart was among those attending. Father Joseph Pallo of Blytheville brought Search to the state in the fall of 1969, said Liz Tingquist, diocesan youth director. About 9,000 Arkansans have attended the three-day high school retreats.

“I think there were people in their 40s who were reminiscing and having a good time, Tingquist said.
