A misstep
With his right arm in a cast and sling, Pope Benedict XVI takes a walk during his vacation in Les Combes, Italy, July 18. The pope fractured his right wrist after he accidentally fell during the night of July 16-17 in the residence where he has been vacationing since July 13. Alabama Catholic doctor nominated for surgeon general
WASHINGTON (CNS) -— Plaudits for Dr. Regina Benjamin from an archbishop and colleagues and even her receipt of a pontifical medal may not be persuasive enough evidence of her credentials as a Catholic who supports Church teaching for critics questioning whether she would become an advocate for legal abortion if she is confirmed as surgeon general.

Hospitals to give up $155 billion over 10 years to fund reform
WASHINGTON (CNS) -— The Catholic Hospital Association and other U.S. hospital groups have agreed to reduced Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements and other system reforms that will free up $155 billion over 10 years for health care reform.
Did Jesus really create miracle of multiplying loaves, fishes?
Q. We heard at Sunday Mass the Gospel (from Matthew) on the miracle of the loaves and fish. Our priest said the miracle was a spiritual one, in which everyone shared what they had and everyone ate. He never stated that it was indeed a physical miracle of multiplying the bread and fish, as I was led to believe in reading the Bible. Which is true? (Seeds of Faith, Question Corner)
