Q. I’m bewildered. I work with a young Jewish man who married a Catholic girl several months ago. The wedding took place in a local hotel, performed by a rabbi and a Catholic priest. My bewilderment: How can a priest participate in a wedding ceremony like this at a hotel or anywhere? I can’t imagine a priest was granted permission or that he would even want to be involved. The range of ethnicities, shades of skin color and even languages spoken in our Catholic churches today remind us of the Scripture from Acts in which those gathered in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost heard the Gospel proclaimed to them in their various languages by the Apostles. They were amazed that these unlettered Galilean followers of Jesus were able to speak in their diverse languages.
