Bishop Taylor names vicar general

Msgr. Scott Friend

Msgr. Scott Friend, diocesan vocation director, has been tapped to be the vicar general for the Diocese of Little Rock. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor made the appointment Nov. 20.
The position of vicar general is the highest position in the diocese after the bishop. Msgr. Friend, 47, will retain his duties as vocation director. The diocese has been without a vicar general since Bishop J. Peter Sartain left for Joliet, Ill., in 2006.
Msgr. Friend, a Little Rock native, was ordained in 1987 and has served as a pastor and diocesan Hispanic ministry director. He was named a monsignor in 2003.
In addition, Bishop Taylor appointed Msgr. Francis I. Malone, pastor of Christ the King Church in Little Rock, to the new position as chancellor for ecclesial affairs. He will remain as pastor while taking on the additional diocesan duties.
