Twenty-five teens at St. Jude Church in Waldron spent four days in early July in Heavener, Okla., for this year’s mission trip. The week included leading a vacation Bible school at Sacred Heart Chapel for 25 kids in English and Spanish. The children served were 3 to 14 years old.
The Waldron youth met each afternoon planning a program based on a New Testament Scripture. In the evening they lead the Bible school, which also included a drama, crafts, music and games. After returning to Waldron at 9 p.m. each day, the adult sponsors and many of the teens gathered for prayer.
The Waldron and Heavener churches are served by Glenmary priests. The Heavener mission is served by Father Don Tranel, a Glenmary priest based in Booneville. The pastor in Waldron is Father Neil Pezzulo.
Last year was the first time the parish hosted a mission trip to Heavener.
