A photo of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Morrison Bluff is the first place winner for photographer Paul McGuyer of Charleston in Arkansas Catholic’s 2008 Directory Photo Contest.
McGuyer’s first-place photo will appear on the cover of the 2008 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory. He also won third place in the contest, with a photo of St. Anthony Church in Ratcliff.
Second place, for a photo of Morris Hall at St. John Center in Little Rock, went to John Griffin of Searcy. McGuyer and Griffin also entered other photos which earned honorable mention, as did Carrol J. Howard of Conway, Elaine Lienhart of Little Rock, Laura McKenney of White Hall and Rebecca Rasberry of Jonesboro.
Photos were judged based on composition, technical quality, visual appeal and suitability for the directory cover. Seventeen photos were submitted to the contest. This was the first time Arkansas Catholic has chosen its directory photo by competition since the directory format began including a glossy photo of a Catholic structure on the cover of the 1998 edition.
