Celebration of faith

Catholics attending Encuentro Hispano, an event sponsored each fall by the diocesan Hispanic Ministry Office, participate in a eucharistic procession led by Father Salvador Márquez-Muñoz of De Queen. On Sept. 9, more than 3,500 Hispanic Catholics came to the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in Little Rock. In addition to presentations, there was a health fair, confessions, children’s activities and Mass. Services from the Mexican and Guatemalan consulates were popular among attendees. Both consulates served 1,000 people with updated passports and identification cards. Many people couldn’t be served because of the time limitations, Deacon Marcelino Luna, director of Hispanic ministry, said. The event was moved permanently this year to the fairgrounds from St. Joseph Home in North Little Rock to handle the larger attendance.
